Guidelines
The Basic Human Needs Emergency Grant Program has been developed to meet the needs of individuals and families in crisis situations. The program provides a maximum grant award of $10,000 to those nonprofit organizations within the Foundation’s service area that provide basic human services and that currently, or in the past, have been the recipient of a Cameron Foundation grant.
The Cameron Foundation’s Board of Directors has defined “basic human needs grant” for the Foundation as follows: Support for organizations providing for food, shelter, clothing, health, and safety for individuals in crisis situations.
Grantees are eligible to apply for an emergency grant once in a given calendar year. Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis. When an organization is awarded an emergency grant, it does not affect the group’s eligibility to apply for other types of Cameron funding.
The review committee considers each application according to:
- Urgency of Need: Is the request beyond the Foundation’s regular grant cycles? Does it benefit individuals/families in crisis? Are there time constraints?
- The Program Category: The request must fall under one of the categories specified: Food, Shelter, Health, Clothing, and Safety (human service-related).
- Past Performance: The organization should have a history of successful submission and timely reporting as well as transparency in articulating grant activities and outcomes.
- Budget Feasibility: There must be a clear articulation and correlation between the money and the purpose of the emergency grant as well as a realistic number of people served with respect to the program budget.
- Resource Leveraging: Funds from other sources must be identified.
