Building Resilience for Healthy Communities

Recognizing the impact that Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) have on health outcomes, in June 2017, Crater Health District, The Cameron Foundation, United Way of Greater Richmond and Petersburg, Virginia Department of Health, and Petersburg Wellness Consortium sponsored a three-day summit, “Beyond ACEs: Building Community Resilience.” Themes for the event centered on building trauma-sensitive schools, clinical and social support services, as well as criminal and juvenile justice systems. The itinerary also incorporated various art forms to promote interpersonal healing through creative venues, some of which were tailored to youth and others for the larger community.
