Establishing a Historic Preservation School
During 2016, the Foundation engaged HistoriCorps, a nationally recognized historic preservation organization based in Colorado, to conduct a local field school at Summerseat in the Village of Ettrick. The $130,797 grant provided a demonstration project that gave potential to develop a local preservation program for other historic structures in the region. With the success of Summerseat, the Foundation has since made a proactive grant of $310,000 to HistoriCorps to establish a regional office in the Tri-Cities area and to fund additional local preservation projects. HistoriCorps uses an educational model where students and volunteers receive valuable training and workforce skills in the preservation trades while participating onsite in the restoration of a historic building.
