Realizing Plans for the Appomattox River Trail System
After supporting the growth of Friends of the Lower Appomattox River (FOLAR) for many years, the Foundation’s $100,000 proactive grant in 2016 is helping the organization reach a new level of community impact. The grant results, both a master plan and a comprehensive signage and wayfinding system plan, provide a roadmap to link and enhance 23 miles of trails in five communities along the river. Most recently, the Foundation has announced a $250,000 implementation grant to develop the area between University Boulevard and the Boulevard in Old Town Petersburg, one of the highest priority segments for the entire trail system.
