Cameron Foundation awards $1.6 million in new grants to 20 nonprofits in Tri-Cities

Petersburg, Va. – In its June meeting, The Cameron Foundation’s Board of Directors approved $1,623,071 in new grants to area nonprofits. This marks the second of three cycles of grants that will be awarded by the Foundation in 2011.

“The Cameron Foundation has a role in helping the Tri-Cities region thrive by providing resources to organizations that are making a difference in the lives of local residents,” said Ann C. Taylor, board chair. “We are pleased to support the efforts of these area nonprofits and to continue working together toward the betterment of our community.”

The Cameron Foundation is a private foundation that was established to support programs and activities benefiting the residents historically served by the hospital now known as Southside Regional Medical Center. The Foundation’s primary jurisdictions include the cities of Petersburg, Colonial Heights and Hopewell; the counties of Dinwiddie, Prince George and Sussex; and the portion of the county of Chesterfield lying south of Route 10.

According to Cleveland A. Wright, chair of the grants committee, this cycle’s list of grantees reflects the wide diversity of needs across the region while giving significant emphasis to two program areas. Wright explained, “More than half of our awards this cycle are going towards work in the areas of health and human services. As a health legacy foundation, these are important grantmaking priorities for us.”
